In the first part of this thesis flehmen inducing urine extracts of cats were analysed by GC/MS. They mostly consisted of methyl- and ethyl-branched, saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. For structure elucidation and for biotests with the cats the compounds 3-methyldecanoic acid, 3-methylundecanoic acid, 3-methyldodecanoic acid, 3,9-dimethyldecanoic acid, (E)-2-ethyloct-2-enoic acid, (E)-2,4-diethylhex-2-enoic acid and 4-ethylhexanoic acid were synthesised. The synthesised compounds 3-methyldecanoic acid and 3,9-dimethyldecanoic acid triggered the flehmen response of the cats in the biotests. For this reason, both compounds were synthesised enantioselectively. The absolute configuration of the natural compounds 3-methyldecanoic and 3,9-dimethyldecanoic acid were elucidated as (R)-enantiomers. The best results in the biotests achieved a mixture of 3-methyldecanoic acid, 3,9-dimethyldecanoic acid and 3-methyldodecanoic acid which was based on the natural composition in the urine. For the first time, this mixture evoked honest interest in the cats for synthesised, volatile compounds. The newly identified, synthesised branched fatty acids are likely to be key compounds for the individual recognition in cats. In the second part of this thesis 22 dichloromethane extracts of the urine of two mouse lemur species, Microcebus murinus and M. lehilahytsara, were analysed by GC/MS. A total of 1321 different volatile compounds of different compound classes were detected, of which 477 were identified. In the comparison of the volatile urine extracts of the sexes of both species, there was a significant difference in the number of compounds. In addition, the discriminant function analysis showed a significant difference in the composition of the urine profiles of the sexes. Five compounds were specific for the urine profile of the males. In contrast, the females possessed 42 compounds which were characteristic for their urine profile. For both species the discriminant function analysis showed a significant difference in the composition of the volatile urine profiles. M. murinus had 15 compounds which were specific for their urine profile. For M. lehilahytsara seven compounds were characteristic. In this thesis it could be shown that male and female mouse lemurs and also both species have their own distinct chemical urine profile.
