Dipsacus strigosus is an european-continental floral element, which is native from southern Ukraine to Turkmenistan. In Europe the taxon is found adventive since the first half of 19th century in different countries. Documented are the first and until now the only sites of Dipsacus strigosus in Lower Saxony near Helmstedt. After a survey of the earliest records of Dipsacus strigosus in western Europe the present- day distribution in Germany and Europe is represented. Finally the criteria of Dipsacus pilosus und Dipsacus strigosus are described.
