Policy for publishing in LeoPARD

LeoPARD is the institutional repository of Technische Universität (TU) Braunschweig and is operated by the university library. It facilitates the publication of research results and documentation of scientists of TU Braunschweig, of special collections of TU Braunschweig and of regional institutions as well as of digitized evidence of the regional cultural heritage.

Among other things, Braunschweig University Library makes contemporary historical documents from its collections available on LeoPARD for academic purposes, research and teaching. These collections are not subject to any evaluation or censorship by the University Library. Braunschweig University Library expressly distances itself from all discriminatory, racist, violence-glorifying, sexist or national socialist content.

LeoPARD provides the organizational and technical framework to ensure the permanent availability of the published objects.

The technical operation of LeoPARD is carried out by the University Library of Braunschweig in cooperation with the Head Office of the Common Library Network Göttingen. (Reposis-Dienst).

The electronic document

It is a work or relevant source that meets the above criteria and is intended for distribution to the public.

The electronic document is not a dynamically changing document. If changes are necessary, the changed document is saved as a new version. Documents that have already been published will not be deleted or changed unless there are serious legal reasons.

The electronic document is based on text, graphics, audio or video sequences or other data. It is stored in digital form on a data carrier and is distributed via computer networks. LeoPARD supports all file formats, but recommends the use of open formats that are suitable for long-term archiving and can be displayed via freely accessible display programs (e.g. PDF/A, TeX, XML). In addition, the original format of the document can also be archived.

The electronic document must be free of any technical protection measures and digital rights management (DRM) processes. Format migrations are made when necessary, for example, to ensure long-term availability. Format migrations are not considered to be a modification of the electronic document.

How to publish?

A form is available for uploading the document(s) and associated metadata. Other forms of transmission are possible by arrangement.

The electronic documents are checked by the university library and released and thus published after receiving the consent for publication (publications) or the consent for publication (research data).

Legal framework

The authors transfer a simple and unlimited right of use to the University Library. The copyrights of the authors are preserved. Publication in LeoPARD does not preclude further publication (e.g. in journals or on other servers). Conversely, secondary publications are also accepted, provided that legal or contractual regulations permit this.

The transfer of rights must be in writing.

The compliance with copyrights and exploitation rights of third parties is the responsibility of the authors.

The authors decide whether and under which CC license their document is published. The University Library recommends the use of the Creative Commons license CC-BY.

The University Library reserves the right to block public access to a publication if there are specific indications of an infringement. The University Library is not liable for damages resulting from the violation of copyrights and exploitation rights, provided that there is no demonstrable intentional or grossly negligent fault on its part. The authors assure to inform the University Library immediately in case of doubt or if alleged or actual infringements of rights occur.

Services of the University Library

Publication on LeoPARD is free of charge. Activities necessary for publication (e.g. preparation of electronic documents, format conversion) are supported or carried out by the University Library by arrangement. Activities that require significant additional effort may be invoiced.

The University Library offers advice and support on all matters relating to publishing on LeoPARD. It assigns persistent and citable identifiers such as URL, URN and DOI to make the documents accessible and findable in the long term. It handles both the formal and content indexing of documents (using Dewey classification) as well as the review and maintenance of metadata. Additional keywords can be assigned by the authors themselves.
The metadata of the documents and their link to the full text are indexed in the catalog of the University Library and in other catalogs of public institutions. As part of the legally regulated mandatory submission of net publications, the metadata as well as the electronic documents are passed on to the German National Library.

The University Library guarantees an archiving period of at least five years for electronic publications. For documents subject to the legally regulated mandatory delivery, the requirements for long-term archiving are met by delivery to the German National Library. In addition, the University Library is committed to providing long-term archiving in the future for documents that are not subject to mandatory delivery. In doing so, it will cooperate with service providers or cooperation partners.
